Dr. Michael Anthony Long
Dr. Michael Anthony Long was born in Louisburg, NC and is a resident and native of Greensboro, NC. He began his ministerial career as a Licensed Minister at the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro.
He was ordained by the Guilford Educational and Missionary Association through the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Moderator Long studied Engineering Physics and Secondary Education at North Carolina A&T State University and is a cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he received the Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies. He earned the Master of Divinity degree from Duke University Divinity School with a Concentration in Christian Education and also completed the Certificate in Baptist Studies. He earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Duke University.
Pastor Long’s community and civic activities included serving on the Board of Directors and as a Trustee of the Early Childhood Education Endowment for the Rockingham County Partnership for Children, Inc. and the Board of Directors for the Reidsville Soup Kitchen. He also served on the Community Advisory Board of The National Children Study in Rockingham County and the Rockingham County Healthy Carolinians Access to Health Care Workgroup. Previous civic involvement has included serving as a Member of the Board of Directors, Habitat for Humanity of Randolph County. He has worked as the Senior Software Developer – Billing and Cash Development Team Leader and managed a team responsible for the operation and technical design of a major multi-million dollar billing system in Winston Salem, NC.
Dr. Long’s ministerial experience covers over 38 years of activity and includes currently serving as the Pastor of the Zion Baptist Church of Reidsville, North Carolina. He was elected the 28th Moderator of the Rowan Baptist Association during the 149th Annual Session in July 2015. He is a dedicated Christian leader with a heart for serving Christ’s Church and a Christian Educator possessing a love and focus in the areas of Spiritual Formation, Christian Discipleship, and Christian Theology. Dr. Long serves as a Spiritual Formation Instructor and Mentor in the Doctor of Ministry Program at the Duke Divinity School. In the area of Educational Leadership, Dr. Long serves as an Instructor and Mentor with Hampton University’s Lilly Endowment PRIME Pastoral Leadership Program; served as a Supervisor/Mentor in the Office of Field Education at Duke Divinity School; an Alumni Mentor in the Office of Multicultural Affairs at UNC Greensboro; and a Supervisor/Mentor for a North Carolina Central University Golden LEAF Scholar. He was appointed to serve on the National Alumni Council of Duke Divinity School.
Dr. Long has received a number of recognitions and awards for ministerial, community service, and academic scholarship, which include Pastor and Church of the Year Award, Reidsville Ministerial Alliance; the Black Achievers in Industry and Business Award from the Winston Lake Family YMCA of Winston Salem, NC; the Key to the City Award from the Mayor and City Council of Reidsville, NC; a Dean Scholar, a National Leadership Scholar, and recipient of several Baptist scholarships at Duke Divinity School Duke University.
Dr. Long is married to the former Robin DeShazo of Danville, VA and they have two sons, Christopher Alan and Cameron Avery, and one daughter, Brittany Nicole.
